The Crown Estate briefed the UK’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) — responsible for scrutinizing government spending — stating that an initial evaluation of the property indicated “in all likelihood that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor will not be owed any compensation for early surrender of the lease … once dilapidations are taken into account,” CNN reported.
The Estate further noted that while it does not expect compensation “will necessarily be due,” Andrew would have been eligible for a six-figure payout of $644,336 only “if no end-of-tenancy repairs or dilapidations are required.”
Given the extensive structural issues at Royal Lodge, that scenario appears impossible.
