On Monday, they were received at the White House by Donald Trump and Melania Trump. The high-profile meeting has already drawn attention, particularly after a body language expert made a surprising claim about Trump’s demeanor.
Security Concerns Ahead of the Visit
The visit comes shortly after a security scare in Washington, D.C., where a gunman attempted to breach security during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Early reports suggested the individual intended to target members of the Trump administration, including the president.
Trump, Melania, and other officials were swiftly escorted to safety by Secret Service agents. The incident, occurring just days before the royal visit, raised concerns about security arrangements surrounding the event.
A Historic Arrival
Charles and Camilla arrived in Washington and proceeded to the White House, marking Charles’ first official state visit to the U.S. as monarch. It is also the first time a reigning British monarch has visited since Queen Elizabeth II’s trip in 2007, when Barack Obama was president.
Before entering the White House, Trump and Melania greeted the royal couple, exchanged a few words, and posed for photographs. While some might expect a bow in such moments, it is not required protocol, and none was given.

Body Language Expert Spots Unusual Behavior
Despite Trump’s well-known admiration for the Royal Family, a body language expert has claimed that his behavior during this meeting stood out as highly unusual.
Speaking to the Daily Star, expert Inbaal Honigman suggested that Trump appeared to treat King Charles as someone “more important” than himself, displaying a style of body language not previously seen during his presidency.
“The Leader of the Free World must be a staunch monarchist, because his humble body language cues are more receptive, engaged and welcoming than with anyone else before the King,” Honigman said.
She added: “Mr and Mrs Trump walk towards the Windsors with their heads lightly bowed. The US leader is seen taking small, measured, careful steps, very unlike the long, confident steps associated with his bombastic personality.”
A Shift From Humble to Strategic
According to Honigman, Trump initially appeared “timid” and focused on making a positive impression. However, his behavior reportedly shifted as the moment progressed.
“The moment that Trump spots the King emerge from the vehicle, he steps forward, his head lowered in humility. Trump reaches his arm out to shake the King’s, extending a welcome even when the two men are a full three feet apart. Trump is taking no chances, he’s determined to behave like a world leader in the presence of monarchy,” she explained.
What’s Next on the Royal Itinerary
During their time in the U.S., Charles and Camilla are expected to take part in several engagements. They will hold bilateral discussions with Trump in Washington and travel to New York City to pay tribute at the 9/11 memorial.
Before returning to the United Kingdom, the royal couple will also make public appearances in Virginia, continuing a visit that blends diplomacy, remembrance, and public outreach.
