Royal watchers picked up on the meaningful detail during an engagement hosted at the monarch’s home earlier this week, sparking fresh discussion about family ties.

King Charles’ quiet gesture during a festive event

King Charles and Queen Camilla recently turned Clarence House into a festive Christmas grotto, welcoming seriously ill children to help decorate the royal Christmas tree.

The young guests were also treated to a special meeting with Santa Claus, making the occasion especially memorable.

While the event itself was heartwarming, it was the decor inside the living room that truly caught the public’s eye.

Wedding photographs draw attention

Observant royal fans noticed framed photographs of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle displayed on a small table in the King and Queen’s living room.

One black-and-white image, highlighted by HELLO!, shows the then Prince Charles walking Meghan down the aisle, arm-in-arm, on her wedding day. He stepped in to escort her after her father, Thomas Markle, was unable to attend due to health concerns.

It is unclear how long the photographs have been on display, but their presence has prompted hope among royal observers that reconciliation between Harry, Meghan, and the wider royal family may still be possible.

Security review raises reunion hopes

Earlier this week, reports emerged suggesting Prince Harry could be closer to a royal reunion, depending on one crucial factor.

In May, Harry lost a legal appeal to have his automatic police protection reinstated during visits to the UK. His security arrangements were reduced after he and Meghan stepped back from royal duties and moved to the United States in 2020.

Now, it has been reported that the Home Office may review whether he should once again receive full police protection during UK visits, despite no longer being a working royal.

Expert says protection could open doors

Royal commentator Jennie Bond suggested that reinstated security could help clear the path toward a family reunion.

Speaking to The i Paper, she said: “Security is offered to a former prime minister [Liz Truss] who served barely any longer than a lettuce takes to wilt, then surely the son of the king deserves the same?

“Prince Harry is asking for the Metropolitan Police to protect him and (if he were to bring them) his family on occasional visits to the UK. It does not seem an unreasonable request. He cannot change the fact that he is the king’s son.”

“Could pave the way for a family reunion”

Jennie continued by emphasising the emotional importance of such a development.

“If he [Harry] gets his wish and his security is restored when he is in the UK, it could pave the way to a family reunion,” she said.

“There’s no doubt that our elderly king would love to see his grandchildren. And, for all the bitterness of recent years, he still loves his youngest son, his ‘darling boy’.”

She also noted that Harry appears “sincere” when he “talks about wanting his children to know and understand their heritage”.

Prince Harry has spoken publicly about wanting Archie and Lilibet to remain connected to their British roots.

Following the loss of his court appeal in May, Harry said in an interview: “I can’t see a world in which I will be bringing my wife and children back to the UK. They’re going to miss everything, I love my country. I miss the UK, I miss parts of the UK.”
