Prince Harry was taking part in the St. Regis World Snow Polo Championship in Aspen, Colorado, while on holiday with friends. Although his appearance at the event itself raised no eyebrows, the introduction he received quickly became a talking point.

During the match, a commentator introduced him as “Harry Wales,” a moment that was captured on video and shared online. The clip sparked backlash from royal watchers, with some accusing Harry of using a title associated with his brother, Prince William. The name “Wales” is linked to William, who is the Prince of Wales, and to his immediate family.

Harry previously used the surname Wales during his childhood, when his father, King Charles, held the title Prince of Wales. However, he was formally given the title Duke of Sussex by the late Queen Elizabeth II on his wedding day in 2018 — a title he continues to hold despite stepping back from royal duties in 2020.

Speculation quickly spread on social media that Harry may have requested the “Harry Wales” introduction. However, a spokesperson for the prince has denied this, confirming that the announcement was simply an error. Speaking to the Express, the spokesperson said Harry did not ask to be referred to by that name.

The Royal Family has not commented on the incident.

Harry is believed to have since returned home following his trip, and is expected to spend Christmas at his Montecito residence with his wife Meghan Markle and their two children, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four.
