The Duke and Duchess of Sussex created the foundation to support their charitable work and confirmed the name change on December 19.

In a statement, the non-profit organization said the new name is intended to expand its “meaningful reach.”

A New Chapter for the Foundation

The statement read:
“This next chapter allows Prince Harry and Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex, to broaden their global philanthropic efforts as a family, with meaningful reach and maximum impact, grounded in the same values, partnerships, and their commitment to show up and do good.”

After relocating to the United States, the couple launched the foundation, naming it after their son, Archie. They have since welcomed a daughter, Lilibet, and recently shared a holiday family photo that sparked public interest.

Introducing Archewell Philanthropies

Elsewhere on the foundation’s website, it was revealed that the organization will now be known as Archewell Philanthropies.

The site stated:
“After five beautiful years, the Archewell Foundation is becoming Archewell Philanthropies. This charitable entity allows the couple and their children to expand upon their global philanthropic endeavors as a family.”

The change suggests that Prince Harry and Meghan want Archie, now six, and Lilibet, four, to be involved in their charitable mission.

A Shift Toward a Family-Focused Model

Some observers see the rebrand as an effort to position the organization more clearly as a family-led enterprise. The use of the term “philanthropies” may also indicate a desire for greater flexibility in supporting a wider range of causes.

However, it has also emerged that the transition will result in staff reductions.

A spokesperson told People:
“The move toward a fiscal sponsor operating model does mean that some staff redundancies are inevitable, particularly with junior admin roles.”

They added:
“We will not be discussing these personnel details further, other than to say that we are honored to have worked with incredibly talented and caring people who dedicate themselves to helping others.”

Involving the Children in Giving Back

Earlier this year, Archie and Lilibet joined their parents during a visit to Our Big Kitchen Los Angeles (OBKLA), where the family was seen rolling dough together while supporting the community kitchen.

Despite the rebrand, the organization—founded in 2020—will continue to operate as a non-profit.

Expanding the Archewell Brand

Alongside the foundation, the couple also launched Archewell Productions and Archewell Audio. Meghan has since introduced a lifestyle series on Netflix titled With Love, Meghan and has spoken publicly about missing Magic Radio in the UK.

She recently released a festive special, With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration.

Ongoing Charitable Focus

Prince Harry and Meghan have repeatedly emphasized their desire to “show up, do good.”

Their philanthropic work has focused on areas such as community support, mental health initiatives, disaster relief, and humanitarian aid.

They have partnered with organizations including World Central Kitchen, The Mission Continues, Women for Afghan Women, and the Center for Humane Technology.

Their donations include $500,000 (£370,200) to projects supporting injured children in Gaza and Ukraine, $200,000 (£148,100) to the World Health Organization for medical evacuations from Gaza to Jordan, and $150,000 (£111,000) to Save the Children’s efforts in Gaza.
