The 12-year-old Prince George of Wales has started to advance his training for his eventual role as King by appearing more frequently alongside his father, Prince William, at key royal engagements.
Traditionally, the children of the Prince and Princess of Wales attend only a limited number of public events each year, reflecting William and Catherine’s commitment to giving them as normal a childhood as possible.
However, 2025 has been a particularly notable year for Prince George. The young royal has already undertaken three high-profile engagements without his siblings, highlighting his increasingly defined position within the monarchy.

Careful Preparation for a Unique Role
Royal commentators believe George is “being well prepared for his unique future royal role” following his recent solo appearances.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams explained that George’s growing presence at major public events is part of a thoughtful and measured approach by his parents.
“As George gets older, he is making more appearances at events of particular significance, especially those with links to the armed forces and sport,” Fitzwilliams told The Daily Mail.
While William and Catherine have long prioritised their children’s privacy, Fitzwilliams noted that this gradual shift reflects their intention to introduce George to meaningful royal duties without overwhelming him.
“As George gets older, he is making more appearances at events of particular significance,” he added.
A Poised Presence at Historic Events
Weeks before his 12th birthday in July, Prince George joined his parents at a Buckingham Palace tea party honouring World War II veterans, held to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
“The young prince was dressed in a smart suit and tie and was seen listening attentively to their stories,” Fitzwilliams said of George’s behaviour at the event.
“He exuded a quiet confidence,” he added.
Former royal butler Grant Harrold, also known as the Royal Butler, shared his thoughts with The Independent, saying, “I think we’re going to see them (the Waleses) more as a family, I love it when you get to see them with the children.”

Three Solo Engagements in One Year
This year alone, Prince George has carried out three major royal engagements without Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte.
In May, he attended the Buckingham Palace tea party celebrating World War II veterans.
In November, he appeared alongside his mother, Princess Kate, at the Festival of Remembrance, where he stood in for his father during the ceremony.
Most recently, George accompanied Prince William on a visit to The Passage, a homelessness charity once supported by his late grandmother, Princess Diana.
A Meaningful Visit to The Passage
Royal observers were particularly encouraged by Prince William introducing his eldest son to The Passage and the Claudette charity.
During the visit, father and son worked alongside volunteers and staff to help prepare Christmas lunch, a gesture that was warmly received by both charity workers and royal watchers.
The moment carried special significance, coming 32 years after Prince William first visited the same charity with Princess Diana, making it a powerful full-circle experience.
Prince George reportedly signed the visitors’ book beneath the names of Diana and William, adding an especially meaningful touch to the occasion and underscoring his growing role within the royal family.
