According to royal commentators, Meghan’s apparent lack of warmth toward the UK could seriously hinder any progress toward repairing Harry’s fractured relationship with his family.

Years Away From Britain

The Duchess of Sussex, now 44, has not returned to Britain since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022.

Her children, Archie, six, and Lilibet, four, were last in the UK earlier that same year during the late monarch’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

In contrast, Prince Harry, 41, has continued to make solo trips back to Britain, including visits to see his father, King Charles, while Meghan and the children have remained based in the United States.

Security Concerns at the Heart of the Divide

Harry has previously insisted it is “impossible” for him to safely bring his wife and children to the UK after losing access to taxpayer-funded police protection when the couple stepped back from royal duties in 2020.

Since then, the duke has been locked in a high-profile legal battle with the Home Office in an effort to have his security reinstated.

After a string of legal setbacks, recent reports suggest the government is now prepared to grant Harry automatic armed protection when he and his family are in the UK.

A Door Opens — But Not Without Obstacles

There is growing hope that the Home Office’s apparent U-turn could help ease tensions between Harry and senior royals, particularly King Charles and Prince William.

However, experts caution that even with security concerns addressed, any reunion involving Meghan would remain fraught.

“It would open the door, but if you look at the polls, her ratings are absolutely terrible. She is not popular with the British public,” royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams said.

“Then there is the case that she does not appear to have any affection for Britain. That has never manifested itself.

“I cannot see Meghan coming to Britain before the Invictus Games because what would she do and why would she come?

“It is not going to be as simple as turning up and seeing King Charles,” Fitzwilliams added to GB News.

Invictus Games Could Force the Issue

It is widely expected that Meghan will accompany Harry when the Invictus Games are held in Birmingham in 2027. Royal author Duncan Larcombe has warned that skipping the event could backfire badly.

“If the protection is put back in place for Harry and Meghan when they’re on UK soil, then there’s really no excuse for her to stay away…

“But, effectively, she’ll come face to face with the British public and members of the family that she’s been at pains to criticise…

“I don’t think it’s in Meghan’s character to eat humble pie and if she comes to the UK, humble pie is exactly what’s on the menu for her,” Larcombe told the Daily Mirror.
