A royal commentator has claimed that Meghan’s apparent lack of “affection” for the UK could hinder any meaningful progress toward repairing Harry’s fractured relationship with his family.
Meghan’s Absence From the UK
The Duchess of Sussex, 44, has not returned to Britain since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022.
Their children, Archie, six, and Lilibet, four, were last in the UK earlier that same year during the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
While Harry, 41, has made several solo trips back to Britain — including visits to see his father, King Charles — Meghan and the children have remained in the United States.

Security Battle and Legal Fight
Harry has previously said it is “impossible” to safely bring Meghan and their children to the UK after losing access to taxpayer-funded police protection when the couple stepped back from royal duties in 2020.
Since then, the Duke of Sussex has been locked in a high-profile legal battle with the Home Office in an effort to have his security reinstated.
After a string of legal setbacks, reports now suggest the government is set to grant Harry automatic armed protection when he and his family are in the UK.
A Door Opens — But Not Without Complications
There is hope that the Home Office’s apparent U-turn could help ease tensions between Harry and the wider Royal Family, particularly King Charles and Prince William.
However, experts warn that even with enhanced security, a family reunion would be far from straightforward.
“It would open the door, but if you look at the polls, her ratings are absolutely terrible. She is not popular with the British public,” royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams said.
“Then there is the case that she does not appear to have any affection for Britain. That has never manifested itself.
“I cannot see Meghan coming to Britain before the Invictus Games because what would she do and why would she come?
“It is not going to be as simple as turning up and seeing King Charles,” Fitzwilliams added to GB News.

Invictus Games and a PR Tightrope
Meghan is widely expected to accompany Harry when the Invictus Games are held in Birmingham in 2027. Royal author Duncan Larcombe has argued that her absence from the event would amount to a “PR disaster”.
“If the protection is put back in place for Harry and Meghan when they’re on UK soil, then there’s really no excuse for her to stay away…
“But, effectively, she’ll come face to face with the British public and members of the family that she’s been at pains to criticise…
“I don’t think it’s in Meghan’s character to eat humble pie and if she comes to the UK, humble pie is exactly what’s on the menu for her,” Larcombe told the Daily Mirror.
