Princess Kate is preparing to open the doors of Windsor Castle to a very special group of guests. Kensington Palace has confirmed that the Princess of Wales, who serves as patron of the Rugby Football Union, will host England’s women’s rugby team, the Red Roses, at a royal reception on Thursday, January 15. The event is being held to honour the team’s triumphant Rugby World Cup victory last September, when they secured the title with an impressive 33 to 13 win over Canada.
The players and coaching staff will be treated to a guided tour of Windsor Castle before gathering for an intimate reception. During the event, the Red Roses will present their World Cup trophy to the princess, followed by an official team photograph. The occasion not only recognises a historic sporting achievement but also highlights the royal family’s ongoing support for women’s sport at the highest level.
England’s victory marked their third Women’s Rugby World Cup title and their first since 2014. Recently, the princess also completed her Mother Nature video series, a personal project inspired by her love of the outdoors and the healing role nature played during her cancer journey. The final instalment was released to mark her birthday and reflected on winter as a season of stillness and reflection. In a gentle voiceover, she spoke of how nature offered calm and perspective during her recovery, expressing gratitude for moments of quiet that allowed her to reconnect with herself.
