Royal fans were left surprisingly divided after learning about a rather personal detail of Prince William and Princess Kate’s nighttime routine. Like many couples, their sleeping habits are far from ordinary, and one revelation in particular has prompted plenty of discussion among the public.

During a visit to Duchy College in Cornwall in October 2024, Prince William stopped to greet a well-wisher and her dog. In the brief exchange, he shared an unexpected insight into life at home. According to Louise Harland, who spoke later to Hits Radio Cornwall, the Prince mentioned that the family’s cocker spaniel, Orla, often sleeps on the bed with him and Kate. Louise recalled that William seemed genuinely delighted by her dog and happily chatted about breeds, explaining that Orla is very much part of their nightly routine.

For some pet owners, this sounds comforting and familiar. Many people enjoy having their dog close by as they sleep. Others find the idea unappealing and cannot imagine sharing a bed with a restless four-legged companion. This contrast in attitudes has been reflected in recent research. Data from MoneySuperMarket suggests that forty-four percent of cat and dog owners in the United Kingdom are open to sharing their bed with their pets, even though many admit their sleep is often disturbed as a result. It seems the nation is firmly split on the subject.

A settled family life in Windsor

William and Kate have now been married for fifteen years. They currently live at Forest Lodge, an eight-bedroom residence in Windsor Great Park, which became their long-term family home in late 2025. The move came after years at Adelaide Cottage, also in Windsor, and was made to offer greater privacy and to remain close to their children’s school. Prince George is now twelve, Princess Charlotte ten, and Prince Louis seven. The transition marked a significant moment for the family, signalling stability after a period of challenges.

A royal source previously told the BBC that Windsor had truly become their home. The relocation was described as a chance for a fresh beginning, especially following a difficult eighteen months during which Kate faced a cancer diagnosis and treatment. The new home provided space, seclusion and a sense of renewal, allowing the family to leave behind some of the more painful memories of recent years.

Even a small detail like a dog sleeping on the bed has given royal followers a glimpse into their private world. It shows a family seeking comfort, normality and warmth, even as public curiosity continues to surround every aspect of their lives.
