Meghan Markle may be preparing for a long awaited return to the United Kingdom, though nothing is guaranteed yet. The Duchess of Sussex has not visited Britain since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022. Now, reports suggest she is open to crossing the Atlantic again, but only if security arrangements meet the required standards.

The potential occasion is the Invictus Games countdown event set to take place in Birmingham this July. Meghan is said to be considering joining Prince Harry for the one year milestone celebration ahead of the Invictus Games 2027, which will also be hosted in Birmingham. If confirmed, it would mark her first appearance in the UK in four years, a moment that would inevitably draw global attention.

However, her attendance is not yet locked in. Everything depends on a decision from RAVEC, the committee responsible for determining eligibility for state funded security protection. A ruling is expected soon, and until then plans remain uncertain. A source speaking to Page Six stated that it is still too early to confirm anything and that no formal arrangements have been finalized.

Security remains the deciding factor

Meghan has previously joined Harry at pre Games events. She attended similar early ceremonies in Germany in 2023 and in Canada in 2025. This pattern has fueled speculation that she may do the same for Birmingham if conditions allow. Insiders also hint that the upcoming event could include formal ceremonial moments involving the Sussexes, with the possibility that senior royals might be invited to future Games activities.

There are even suggestions that Prince Harry hopes King Charles III will be asked to open the Invictus Games in 2027. While official invitations have not yet been sent, royal involvement is expected to be discussed behind the scenes. Despite these ambitions, sources emphasize that security approval will determine everything. Without it, Meghan is unlikely to set foot in the country.

A long running legal and personal battle

Concerns about safety are not new for the Sussexes. Since stepping back from senior royal duties in 2020, Harry and Meghan lost access to taxpayer funded armed protection in the UK. Harry has spent years challenging that decision through the courts. He has repeatedly said that he does not feel it is safe to bring Meghan or their children Archie and Lilibet to Britain under current arrangements.

Neither child has visited the UK since the Platinum Jubilee in June 2022. In May 2025, Harry lost his latest legal appeal to reinstate full security protection. Even so, he continues to push for change. Following the ruling, he announced plans to write to the Home Secretary requesting a review of how RAVEC decisions are made, raising concerns about transparency in the process.

For now, Meghan’s possible return remains an open question. The desire may be there, the event is on the calendar, but the final decision rests with security officials. Until that verdict arrives, the Duchess of Sussex remains in waiting mode, with her next step tied firmly to whether Britain will once again be declared safe for her and her family.
