They shared a look heavy with unspoken words, each aware of the other’s hidden wounds. Clara felt her heart lighten, as if, for the first time in a long while, she could share a piece of her pain.
"Our worlds are different, Aiden," she said finally, breaking the silence. "Lycan and werewolf packs have never been friends."
Aiden nodded, a sad smile touching his lips. "True. Our ancestors fought, and the mistrust remains. But here, in this forest, under this moon... does it really matter?"
The sincerity of his question unsettled her. She had never considered that their opposing origins could be set aside, even temporarily. She lowered her gaze, touched by the simplicity of his words.
"And if our packs found out?" she murmured, almost to herself.
Aiden shrugged. "Then they’d find out. But here, it’s just you and me, Clara. No pack, no rules. Just us."
Clara looked up, feeling a strange thrill run through her. She had never felt this kind of freedom with anyone. It was as if, in his presence, she could be herself, without fear of judgment.
They continued walking in silence, each savoring the presence of the other. Clara observed his features under the moonlight, shadows from the trees accentuating his rugged look. She noticed a glimmer of softness in his eyes, contrasting with his imposing exterior.
Eventually, she stopped and looked at him, voicing the question that had been bothering her from the start. "Why didn’t you avoid me, Aiden? If you wanted to stay alone?"
He gazed at her intently, and she thought she saw a rare sincerity in his eyes. "Because you, Clara... you understand what it’s like to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. And because, somewhere inside, I knew I needed this encounter."
His words left Clara speechless. She felt a warmth blossom within her, a feeling she hadn’t believed possible after her first love’s betrayal. She looked down, troubled by the strength of her emotions.
"Clara," Aiden said softly, "maybe our paths were meant to cross. Maybe this is our true destiny."
She looked up, lost in the deep blue of his gaze. She now understood that this meeting was no accident, that something much greater had brought them together.
"And if we let fate decide?" she whispered, a shy smile on her lips.
