Over the years, many people have asked me the same question:
“What’s your secret?”
There is no magic or complicated formulas. What there are are five simple habits that I started practicing many years ago and that I have repeated every morning, almost without fail.
If you’re reading this, maybe:
- You wake up with stiffness and pain.
- You feel fatigue from an early age.
- You notice brain fog, forgetfulness or lack of clarity.
- They already told you that “it’s normal for your age” and that all that’s left is to resign yourself.
I heard that too. But I chose not to accept it as a destination. I found that the body, even at advanced ages, responds when we give it the right little cues each morning.
In this article, I want to share with you, from older woman to older woman, the five morning habits that changed my days and helped me maintain my independence.
The 5 Morning Habits That Changed My Life After 70
I’ll summarize them for you first, and then we delve into them one by one:
- A large glass of water with a pinch of salt when you wake up.
- Let the morning light in and go outside for a few minutes.
- Four minutes a day of “mental gymnastics” right after you get up.
- A short gentle mobility routine, without floor or sudden exercises.
- A real protein breakfast, designed for mature muscles.
You don’t have to start with everyone at once. You can add one this week, another next week, and so on.
1. The glass of water that “ignites” the body from within
For years I started my day like many women: I crawled into the kitchen, poured coffee, and waited for the mental confusion to clear up on its own. At the age of 75, in addition to the tiredness, I began to feel:
- Dizziness when I get up.
- Swollen fingers.
- Knee pain before I even stand up.
Looking for answers, I understood something key: we wake up dehydrated. After several hours without drinking, the body loses water through breathing and skin. And in older people, even mild dehydration can get worse:
- Joint pain.
- Fatigue.
- Mental clarity.
How I do it every morning
In the evening, before going to bed:
- I leave a large glass of room temperature water on my bedside table (approx. 400–500 ml).
- I add a small pinch of sea salt or unrefined, mineral-rich salt.
Upon waking:
- Before coffee.
- Before breakfast.
- Before you talk to someone.
I drink the entire glass calmly, but without pauses.
