That night, heavy rain hit the windows of a large house in a quiet American town called Ridgewood Valley, while Cassian Walker stood in a hidden security room watching every screen in front of him. His hands were shaking, and his mind felt like it was moving faster than his body could follow.
Ramiro, the security guard, stepped closer and spoke with urgency while trying to stop him from leaving the room.
“Sir, you need to slow down and think carefully before going out there right now,” Ramiro said with concern in his voice.
Cassian did not answer because he was already moving through the secret hallway toward the upper floor of the house.
On the monitors, Elise Carter was walking closer to the locked bedroom that once belonged to Grace Walker, Cassian’s late wife whose memory still controlled every part of the home. Elise carried a small golden key in her hand, and her face looked calm in a way that felt deeply wrong to Cassian.
Downstairs, Sarah Walker held her younger sister Mia Walker tightly while both girls stayed near Laura Bennett, the house helper who tried to keep them safe without drawing attention.
Cassian left the hidden room and walked through a narrow hallway that connected to the private section of the house. He chose not to use the main stairs because he did not want Elise to have even a moment to prepare a story before he arrived.
When he reached the corner near the bedroom, he saw Elise standing right in front of the locked door to Grace Walker’s room. Elise had already placed the golden key into the lock and was turning it slowly with complete confidence.
Cassian spoke in a firm voice that carried through the hallway.
“Do not open that door at this moment because I am standing right here.”
Elise stopped for a second and slowly turned her head toward him with an expression that showed surprise but also control.
She tried to speak softly and said, “Cassian, I can explain everything that you are misunderstanding right now.”
Cassian stepped closer and answered without hesitation, “Give me that key immediately and do not say anything else.”
Elise tightened her fingers around the key and replied, “Your daughters are confused because Laura is influencing them and I am only trying to protect this family.”
Cassian looked at her and said, “That room has been locked for three years and only two keys ever existed in this house.”
