"Yara, my patience with you is limited. Think carefully before you speak."
"Don't forget, you begged for this on your knees! If you miss this chance, you won't get another!"
"It was your mother's last wish to see you marry me. Is that not her wish anymore? Are you honoring her memory?"
I lifted my eyes, laced with sarcasm. "When did you have patience with me? I've thought it through. Thank you for your generosity. My mother and I don't deserve it. Leave the wedding for those who need it."
I glanced at Cindy with a sneer.
Eason's eyes narrowed, sensing my defiance, and he spoke cautiously.
"Not worthy? Or are you afraid someone will find out your mother's terminal illness is fake?"
"I know it was wrong for me to miss the wedding. I've already arranged for a specialist to consult with your mother about her condition. Why are you refusing the wedding now? What terminal illness are you afraid will be exposed?"
His words froze my blood. I clenched my fists so tightly that my knuckles shook.
"Eason, shut up! What right do you have to mention my mother's last wish?"
"Her wish was for me to be happy, not to marry you!"
"Who do you think you are? Do you think you're worth my mother's life? We don't need your fake kindness or your damn consultation!"
"From now on, we have nothing to do with each other! We never need to see each other again!"
With each word, Eason's face grew darker until it was as black as a storm cloud.
He hissed through gritted teeth.
"Yara, you better think twice before spewing such nonsense! Has your mother's illness rubbed off on you, or has your brain taken a vacation?"
I watched his lips move, and any lingering love I had for him turned into pure hatred.
Eason grabbed his phone and dialed the wedding company.
"Cancel the venue I rebooked yesterday. From now on, no woman named Yara Lopez is allowed to book any events there! I don't care who she will marry, don't take it!
"And if you do, shut down your company and go back to farming!"
He hung up and immediately called another number.
"The expert consultation I arranged for Ms. Yara Lopez—cancel it immediately."
There was a stunned pause on the other end before a hesitant voice replied.
"I'm sorry, but Ms. Yara Lopez's consultation was canceled yesterday. The patient has passed away."
