Just when I was about to break down, Erin Waston answered my call.
"Jason is in the pet hospital. Is there anything wrong?"
My heart sank, and I couldn't help but ask,
"I thought he was bringing over the drug. What's he doing there?"
There was silence for a few seconds, and then another person's voice came. It was Jason.
He sounded calm, with a hint of impatience,
"I forgot about that. I'll ask my assistant to bring it over."
I listened to him, and my mind went blank.
I had no time to question him,
With a pale face, I almost begged,
"Jason, my parents and my siblings are in a critical condition now. The doctor said they must take the drug now. I hope you can..."
Before I could finish speaking, Jason interrupted me,
"Got it."
For fear that he might forget about it again, I repeated,
"Please be quick, please. Please ask your assistant to come over immediately."
"They can't hold it any longer..."
But Jason only found me annoying.
"Are you done talking? I've already brought back the drug. What else do you want from me? If you say one more word, the drug will be delivered an hour later."
I bit my lips tightly, not daring to make any sound.
"Jason, the dog seems... to be dying."
Erin sounded sad. Jason hurried to embrace her and console her before hanging up the phone.
"No. Let the vet see him first."
I had never heard Jason talk in such a soft voice before.
Jason comforted Erin for a long time, during which the attending doctor came out again to ask if the drug had been delivered.
"Jason, about the drug..."
Before I could finish my words, Jason hung up.
The doctor said the situation was dire and the patients could die at any time.
I couldn't wait anymore and decided to take the drug from Jason myself.
Instead of calling Jason this time, I called his assistant, who hesitated and refused to reveal Jason's whereabouts until I intimidated him as Jason's fiancée. Then, he told me Jason was at a pet hospital.
I knew the pet hospital Jason's assistant mentioned. It was near Erin's place. Jason and Erin often went there.
There was a once-in-a-century rainstorm going on in Ashton.
The street was empty, and I couldn't even get a taxi. But I had no choice but to head to the pet hospital.
An hour later, I arrived there, soaking wet.
The moment Jason saw me, he subconsciously twisted his eyebrows.
"What are you doing here?"
He made it sound like I was committing some kind of crime there.
