Inside, I felt a grim satisfaction. If Hailey wanted to play the charming, submissive guest, she would have to face my resistance. I wasn’t about to let her undermine me or my position in my own home.

Feeling the mounting tension and their nauseating display of affection, I decided to retreat upstairs. As I made my way up, their laughter and conversation grew louder, a backdrop of insincerity that I was eager to escape.

From above, I overheard Hailey speaking to Chris with a tone of feigned sweetness. "Chris, since you and Sister are back, let’s give you the bedroom," she said, her voice dripping with false affection as she tenderly pulled on Chris’s hand.

Chris looked visibly distressed, torn between his desire to placate Hailey and his awareness of the awkwardness of the situation. "No, no," he said, his voice wavering. "You’ve been living here for several days already. Are you getting used to it?"

He reached out to stroke Hailey’s hair gently, his voice softening as he spoke. "You’ve always been so shy and now that you’re finally accustomed to it, how could I possibly ask you to move?"

Hailey’s face lit up with a mixture of joy and smug satisfaction. She leaned closer to Chris, basking in his attention and the apparent validation of his words.

Unable to tolerate their insincerity any longer, I decided to make my presence known. "So you knew it was our wedding room, our bedroom?" I said sharply, my voice cutting through their conversation like a knife. "I thought you weren’t aware."

The suddenness of my remark made both Chris and Hailey startle as if they had been jolted awake. Their faces turned to me with a look of shock and discomfort. Chris’s hand was still in mid-air from where he had been touching Hailey’s hair and Hailey’s expression of satisfaction was replaced with surprise and awkwardness.

I stood at the top of the stairs, my demeanor composed but my eyes cold. I had successfully disrupted their little charade, making it clear that I was fully aware of their manipulative games. The atmosphere in the room shifted, leaving Chris and Hailey visibly unsettled and uncertain.

Chris’s face turned a deep shade of red and he looked at me with a mix of surprise and hesitation. "Yasmine, when did you get here?" he asked, his voice tinged with nervousness and confusion.
