I limped to the door before a slightly upset voice came from behind me. "Victoria, happy wedding."
When I looked back over, Charlie's eyes showed a hint of imperceptible sadness. He quickly hid it as I looked at him.
I was going to explain, but I didn't think it was necessary when I thought about it.
Some of my stuff was still at Ethan's house. In order to get them, I specifically asked Zachary to help me ask when I could take them away.
It didn't take long for Zachary to call me, and he said guiltily, "Victoria, I'm so sorry. Carolyn was insane, she threw out all your stuff, and Ethan asked me to give you the money."
His tone sounded indignant, and I got what he meant. Maybe the two had said something else unpleasant, and it was just hard to tell me.
"It's not necessary, and you can just keep it. Thank you for helping me."
After finishing the call, I stared blankly at the screen of my phone, which showed a picture of Ethan and I on the day of our proposal. We were smiling so happily and joyfully in the picture.
It was obviously real, but it looked as if it was fake.
I pursed my lips and changed the phone wallpaper.
When my mother, Amanda, heard that Ethan and I had canceled our wedding, she came from my hometown overnight.
"Why did you cancel your wedding with Ethan? You're too happy to know what pain is. With Ethan's family connections, any sensible woman would know to hold on to him tightly. Why are you so stupid that you can't even keep a man's heart?"
She yelled at me without asking for a reason, and I had long since gotten tired of being blamed by her and didn't want to answer her words for a while.
Amanda, however, became even angrier, and she yanked my hand to get to Ethan.
"Mom, stop it! The wedding is over, and it's over between us!"
