Rise up! Dear self!Chapter 1
When the hospital called to inform me that Henry Pearce had been in an accident, I couldn't help but smile wide. That scumbag was finally dead.
I rushed to the hospital to take care of the necessary paperwork. Before the cremation, I kindly called my mother-in-law, Celeste Pearce. Unfortunately, she kept hanging up on me.
It wasn't until after Henry was turned to ashes that Celeste finally called back. "Sofia Whitfield, what's the fuss this early in the morning? You better have a good reason for calling so many times, or I won't let you off the hook."
Pretending to choke up, I said, "Mom, Henry had an accident. He died in a car crash."
Then, I heard a wail from the other end of the line, and I instantly felt a wave of satisfaction.
I picked the cheapest urn available, feeling content, and headed home.
To my surprise, the first person I saw wasn't my mother-in-law, but Ruby Fraser, my husband's mistress. She had made my life miserable in my past life.
I had been reborn. In my previous life, I discovered Henry's affair only after Ruby sent me some provocative photos. I filed for divorce that very day, asking for nothing but my daughter's custody.
The day after our divorce, Henry married Ruby and died in a car accident soon after.
My daughter should have inherited a portion of Henry's assets, but Celeste accused me of cheating during the marriage, claiming that my daughter wasn't his child.
I refused to accept this and decided to go to court. But they made a scene at my daughter's school. She was only six years old, so I had to drop the lawsuit.
I thought backing down would make them stop, but they didn't. No matter what I tried to do, they ruined it. I ended up doing odd jobs everywhere and eventually died from exhaustion.
When I woke up again, I found I had returned to the day I discovered Henry's affair. This time, I didn't bother with the incriminating photos on my phone. I simply sent my daughter to stay with my parents. I didn't want these disgusting events to affect her.
In this life, I was going to take back everything that was mine.
Ruby looked impatient when she saw me. She must have been waiting for me all morning, only to find I wasn't home.
Standing in front of me as if to declare her victory, Ruby said, "Sofia, I'm Henry's true love. I suggest you get a divorce sooner rather than later."
