“Uncle, I’m going to divorce Morgan. Give me seven days. We’ll take back the inheritance my mother left us.”

The moment Luna hung up the phone, her husband’s driver pulled up in front of her. “Ma’am, Mr. Elwood asked me to take you to a restaurant. He prepared a surprise for you.”

She hesitated for a while. She didn’t want to go, but before she could refuse, two tall bodyguards stepped forward and forced her into the car.

When they arrived at the restaurant, she was pushed into a dark private room. It was completely empty and the large mirror on the wall reflected her pale face.

She quickly turned around, looking for the two bodyguards who brought her, but they were already gone. The door was locked from the outside.

Her heartbeat grew faster and faster as memories of her kidnapping came rushing back.

Back then, she had been locked in a small, windowless room and tortured endlessly for days. She had only survived by whispering her mother’s and Morgan’s names over and over in her mind.

But when she was finally rescued, she found out that her mother had died from shock and grief after hearing about her kidnapping. Since then, she had suffered from depression. At her worst, she had even hurt herself. Even now, she still couldn’t stand being alone in the dark.

Luna gasped for air and ran toward the door, shouting for help as loudly as she could.

She screamed until her voice cracked, but no one came to save her.

The faces of the kidnappers began flashing before her eyes again and everything seemed so dark inside. She screamed and fought wildly just like back then, until a sharp slap hit her face.

When she finally came back to her senses, she was holding a wine bottle, about to throw it at Violet’s head. A crowd had gathered, watching in shock.

The one who slapped her was Morgan.

Seeing her dazed expression, he bit his lip with guilt flashing in his eyes. “I’m sorry, Luna. You were having another episode. I just wanted to calm you down.”

Luna stared at his raised hand in silence, her heart aching.

He had seen her episodes before. In the past, he would hold her tightly and comfort her gently. But now, he used violence instead.

Then, she saw Violet’s proud smile and everything became clear. He must have hit her because she had almost hurt Violet.

How ridiculous.
