She tilted her head, her voice dripping with mock concern. “Or are you just letting your mother die on purpose? I heard you two didn’t get along.”
Alannah bit her lip. “VP, please… I’m begging you…”
Ever since Quincy believed she and his mother had deceived him, he’d frozen Alannah’s bank accounts. It was true that she didn’t even have the money to pay for her mother’s surgery.
Pearl sank into a leather chair, crossing one leg lazily over the other.
“If you’re begging me, you should at least act like it. Kneel, and I’ll think about giving you the money.”
Alannah’s eyes widened in shock.
Seeing her hesitation, Pearl sneered. “You’re just a gold digger who clawed her way into marriage. You slept your way into his bed. Don’t tell me you can’t bring yourself to kneel for your own mother’s surgery.”
Alannah’s fingers trembled. Then, slowly, she made up her mind and sank to her knees.
The conference room was filled with whispers she could hear.
“God, that’s pathetic. The CEO’s wife’s getting humiliated just to pay for her mother’s surgery?!”
“Looks like the CEO’s serious about the VP. We’d better stay on her good side.”
Minutes crawled by, and Alannah’s heart turned to ice.
Finally, Pearl glanced at her with disdain, scribbled something on a check, and tossed it at her face.
“To people like us, you’re nothing but a pitiful loser.”
The check fluttered to the floor. Scrawled on it was the amount [$1000].
Alannah pulled herself up and grabbed Pearl’s wrist. “You said if I got on my knees, you’d pay for the surgery!”
“Yep, and I did,” Pearl said casually, a mocking smile curving her lips. “Isn’t this money? What’s wrong? Is it too little? Sorry, the company’s been short on funds lately.”
As she spoke, she lifted her wrist deliberately, showing off the diamond bracelet Quincy had given her.
‘Short on funds?’ Alannah thought. ‘That bracelet alone is definitely worth tens of millions!’
The argument escalated. Pearl suddenly gasped, pretending to slip and fall to the floor.
When Quincy walked in and saw her sprawled there, his face darkened instantly. He rushed forward, pulling her into his arms.
His voice was low and cold. “Not a single cent of my money will go to your mother’s surgery!”
Alannah fell to her knees, desperately begging everyone in the room, but one by one, they turned away like she carried a plague.
Just then, her phone rang. It was the hospital.
