Rice water has been used for generations across Asia to help skin look smoother, brighter, and calm. Modern research supports several of these traditional uses: rice‑derived ingredients can be moisturizing, anti‑inflammatory, photoprotective, and “anti‑aging” in the sense of improving the look and feel of the skin barrier. Clove—rich in the compound eugenol—adds natural antioxidant and antimicrobial activity, while a few everyday boosters (green tea, aloe, glycerin, and rose water) round out a toner that can make skin appear plumper, clearer, and more even with regular use. As always, we’re talking about improving the appearance of aging signs; sunscreen and a balanced routine remain essential.

Ingredients Required (all commonly available)

  • 2 tablespoons uncooked white rice

  • 6–8 whole cloves

  • 1 green tea bag (or 1 teaspoon loose green tea)

  • 2 tablespoons pure aloe vera juice (or well‑strained fresh gel)

  • 1–2 teaspoons vegetable glycerin

  • 2 tablespoons rose water

  • 1 cup distilled or previously boiled and cooled water

  • Optional: 2–3 drops vitamin E oil (skip if acne‑prone)

Procedure

  1. Quick rice water: Rinse the rice once, then soak it in ½ cup warm distilled water for 20–30 minutes. Agitate with clean fingers until the water turns milky. Strain; this is your rice water.

  2. Clove + green tea infusion: In a small pot, bring ½ cup water to a gentle simmer. Turn off heat, add whole cloves and the green tea. Cover and steep 7–10 minutes. Strain and cool completely.

  3. Combine: In a sanitized bowl, mix the cooled rice water and the clove–green tea infusion. Add aloe juice, glycerin, and rose water. Stir well.

  4. Bottle: Funnel into a clean spray bottle. Refrigerate. Use within 5–7 days. (Because this is a kitchen formulation without preservatives, small batches and cold storage are best.)
