Having to defrost your fridge is usually a nuisance, so much so that sometimes we tend to postpone the operation for as long as possible. However, doing this periodically is very important for at least two reasons. First of all, storing ice in the fridge means it consumes more energy. In addition, ice can damage the food in the refrigerator and alter its preservation. What to do then?

Defrosting the refrigerator does not necessarily have to be a long and tiring operation : there are alternative and faster methods . Let’s see what they are. Before you start, however, remember that it’s very important to prepare your work area and equip yourself to do things safely. To do this, be careful to cover the floor so as not to get it dirty, and turn off the fridge. Also, don’t do these operations when you’re home alone or very tired.

Hair Dryer Method

Using the hair dryer to melt the ice inside the refrigerator certainly saves a lot of time. This method allows you to melt larger blocks of ice, so that you only have to scrape off the debris. To do this, however, you should always be careful not to let the hair dryer and its cord come into contact with the ice.

At the same time, it is important to avoid pointing hot air at the same place for a long time, to avoid accidents and damage to the refrigerator.

Defrost the fridge with a hot spatula

This second method consists of heating a stove or other spatula by placing it on a heat source. At this point it will be enough for it to adhere to the ice, which will decompose with heat. However, if you choose to try this method, it is very important to pay maximum attention so as not to burn out, so it is not recommended to do so when you are alone in the house or not awake and lucid enough .

Pots full of hot water

Many may have already thought about it, but filling pots with hot water and closing them in the fridge is a great solution to speed up the defrosting process, removing at least most of the ice. However, this method may take longer than others, depending on the size of your refrigerator and the amount of ice you need to melt. Also, the water inside the pots after about 10 minutes tends to cool down while inside the refrigerator, so it should be replaced with other hot water. This could result inincreased water consumption.
