“If it’s a girl,” Olivia said, “I want to name her Emily.”
Tears filled his eyes.
“She’d be honored.”
Their happiness was shaken when Mark resurfaced, demanding custody. Olivia was devastated. Ethan held her tightly.
“No one is taking your baby.”

After speaking with his lawyer, Ethan made his choice. That night, he knelt before her.
“Marry me. Not for protection. Because I love you.”
She said yes.
They married quietly. When the baby arrived early—a girl—Ethan never left Olivia’s side.
“She’s ours,” he whispered as they named her Emily Parker.
Days later, the court ruling came. Mark lost all rights due to abandonment. Ethan was approved to adopt.
Life became diapers, sleepless nights, laughter, and healing. Emily grew up calling Ethan “Dad” without hesitation.
Years later, when she asked who her “real father” was, Ethan knelt and said,
“A real father is the one who stays.”
She smiled.
“Then you’re my real dad.”
Decades passed. Ethan and Olivia grew old together, watching sunsets side by side.
“You were never alone,” he told her softly.
She rested her head on his shoulder. “And I never will be.”
