Oxidative stress and declining collagen are the twin engines of visible skin aging: they thin the dermis, deepen expression lines, and dull the complexion. Fresh okra pods are packed with vitamin C, flavonoids, and viscous polysaccharides that spur new collagen and seal in moisture, making the vegetable an underrated topical for plumper skin.

Whole cloves contribute eugenol—an aromatic phenol that enhances micro-circulation and reduces sagging and wrinkles. By blending these botanicals with soothing aloe vera, catechin-rich green-tea water, vitamin E oil, and glycerin, you create a synergistic night gel that firms, hydrates, and repairs while you sleep.

Ingredients (50 g batch)

  • 4 fresh okra pods, sliced thin (about 12 g) — mucilage hydrates and boosts collagen

  • 10 whole cloves (≈ 2 g) — eugenol combats fine lines and acts as a natural preservative

  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) pure aloe vera gel — instantly cools, soothes, and speeds barrier repair

  • 1 tbsp (15 mL) strong green-tea infusion (steep ½ tsp leaves in 30 mL hot water, cool) — EGCG provides powerful antioxidant defense

  • ¼ tsp (1 mL) vitamin E oil — lipid-soluble antioxidant that stabilises the formula and reduces wrinkle depth

  • ½ tsp (2 mL) vegetable glycerin — humectant that draws water into the upper dermis for long-lasting plumpness
(Optional) 2–3 drops of lavender essential oil for scent; do not exceed this amount to keep dermal load low.

Procedure

  1. Extract Okra Mucilage: Simmer the sliced okra in 50 mL water for 10 minutes. The liquid will thicken slightly and become glossy. Strain through a fine mesh; you should obtain ~25 mL of viscous okra gel.

  2. Infuse Cloves: While the okra cooks, lightly crush cloves and steep them in the hot green-tea infusion for 5 minutes. Strain and cool.

  3. Blend Base: In a sterilised glass bowl, whisk together aloe vera gel, vitamin E oil, and glycerin until uniform.

  4. Combine Botanicals: Slowly drizzle the cooled okra mucilage and clove-green-tea infusion into the base, whisking continuously. The mixture will form a smooth, semi-thick gel.

  5. Adjust Texture: If too runny, chill 10 minutes; polysaccharides thicken as they cool. If too thick, thin with 1–2 mL boiled-then-cooled water.

  6. Package: Transfer into a dark 50 g cosmetic jar, label, and refrigerate. Use within 10 days or freeze in an ice-cube tray for longer storage.
