So he installed hidden cameras throughout the house. In the living room. The kitchen. The hallway. His child’s bedroom. Every corner. He wanted to know everything she did.

Old wounds reopened quickly. Previous nannies had betrayed him—stealing money, leaking details of his private life, crossing lines he never forgave. This time, Ethan promised himself, he would stay ahead. He watched the live feeds constantly on his phone, day and night, like a detective guarding his own secrets.

Grace cleaned quietly, hummed soft melodies, sat on the floor playing with his young son, Oliver Carter, and patiently supported him as he tried to take his first shaky steps. The footage revealed nothing alarming. No theft. No secret calls. No suspicious behavior.

Then one afternoon, while Ethan monitored the cameras from his office, Grace paused in front of an old family photo. She held it carefully, staring for a long moment.

“He looks just like him,” she whispered softly. “Those same gentle eyes…”

A tight knot formed in Ethan’s chest.

Later that evening, while checking her bag, he noticed a small locket. Inside was a faded photograph of an elderly man embracing a woman Ethan had never seen before.

Ethan slowly zipped the bag shut, his fingers shaking despite his effort to stay steady.

The image from the locket was still burned into his mind. The man in the photograph looked hauntingly similar to his own father—only older. Much older.

He remained seated for several long minutes, completely motionless.

There was no logical explanation.

That evening, he turned on the security cameras again. Grace was sitting beside Oliver, reading him a story, her voice calm and gentle. The boy laughed, reached for her face, and mispronounced her name as he spoke. It looked like a family moment. Too… natural.

Ethan didn’t sleep that night.

The following day, he chose to observe her differently—not through screens, but with his own eyes. He noticed the details: how she prepared the child’s breakfast exactly the way he liked it; how she laid out his clothes with a level of care that went far beyond her duties; how she spoke to the boy about him—the father—always with respect, never with resentment.

Later, Grace stepped outside into the backyard with Oliver. Ethan watched from the window. He saw her quickly wipe away a tear, believing no one was there to see.

That was when he understood he needed the truth.
