Nothing could be more wrong: the peel is the most nutrient-dense part of the lemon, it is very versatile and can be used in many different ways. Below we list all the uses of lemon peel that will lead you to think twice before throwing it away.
Air freshener. Cook two squeezed lemons, three sprigs of fresh rosemary and a teaspoon of vanilla in half a liter of water. Boil for a couple of minutes then let cool. Pour into a spray bottle and store in the fridge. The air freshener is ready to be used.
Deodorizer for closets or drawers. Let the squeezed lemons dry, then place them in a canvas bag. Add a few spices to taste, such as cinnamon, cloves, or cardamom, and store in kitchen cabinets or bedroom drawers.
It absorbs bad odors in the fridge. Put the squeezed lemons directly in the fridge: they will be very effective in absorbing the smells that come from the food and which, often and willingly, are not at all pleasant.
Multi-purpose cleaner. Pour the squeezed lemons into a container and add some white vinegar. Close and let it rest for two weeks. Filter the liquid and add equal parts water. Use as a multi-purpose cleaner, capable of degreasing and disinfecting.
Insect repellent. Cut the squeezed lemons and arrange them around the house, at insect entry points such as windows or cracks.
