Liam clearly didn't catch the sarcasm in her words, and simply nodded with a sigh of relief. Just then, Vanessa's coquettish voice came from inside the restaurant: "Liam, I want to eat the mango crepes from that place on the corner, can you go buy them for me?"
Liam's response was almost spontaneous: "Okay, I'll go after I change my shoes."
He turned and left, his steps light and quick, without even glancing at Clara on the sofa again.
Clara watched his figure disappear into the entryway, the pain in her palm growing ever stronger.
Not long after, the sound of high heels approached. Vanessa, wearing Clara's favorite pair of stilettos, walked up to her and deliberately swung her wrist.
A blinding light flashed in Clara's eyes.
It's those two love knot rings.
She spent half a month revising the design countless times to create this 7th anniversary commemorative ring. She originally thought that these rings would be worn by her and Liam to witness their wedding.
But now, it's on Vanessa's hand.
Vanessa bent down and whispered in Clara's ear, her voice sweet but laced with venom: "This ring is so beautiful, isn't it? Liam said that once I become K's apprentice, he'll use it to hold a grand wedding with me. Oh, and," she paused, her boastful tone almost overflowing, "you designed it, didn't you? Thank you so much, Clara."
The warm breath sprayed on her earlobe, like the forked tongue of a venomous snake licking her skin.
Clara's breathing became heavy.
She suddenly raised her hand, as if to touch the ring, but her fingertip "accidentally" bumped into Vanessa's wrist.
With a "thud".
The ring fell to the floor and rolled a long way.
Vanessa's scream shattered the silence of the living room: "Ah! My ring! Liam! Come here right now!"
Liam had just changed his shoes when he heard the noise and rushed in. He saw the ring on the floor and Vanessa's red-rimmed eyes. Without thinking, he stormed up to Clara and yelled, "Clara! If you can't see, behave yourself! What are you doing wandering around like that?!"
His voice was so loud that it made Clara's eardrums buzz.
She didn't argue, but simply lowered her head slightly, her long eyelashes concealing the chill surging in her eyes.
She remembered a time when she accidentally broke a vase. Liam rushed over to help her up and asked anxiously, "Niannian, are you hurt anywhere? It's okay if the vase is broken."
