I waited and waited, but Liam never showed up. When I called him, I realized he had blocked me. My heart sank—was this his way of cutting me off completely? Determined, I walked up to the front desk and asked, "Hi, is Liam in today?"
The new receptionist gave me a polite smile and asked, "Hi and you are...?"
"Mrs. Lancaster," I said with a faint smile.
Her smile became more genuine. "Ma’am, Mr. Lancaster hasn’t come in today."
I was surprised but kept my cool. So, Liam hadn’t come to the office at all.
It had been ten hours since Liam left home and he was nowhere to be found. Today, I had planned a day alone with him, leaving our son at my parent’s place. I never expected this turn of events. I felt relieved in a way; at least our son wasn't witnessing this mess.
I drifted off to sleep in a daze and woke up late the next day. Without hesitating, I grabbed the paternity test report and hurried to Liam’s office. As people streamed out of the building, I spotted Liam right away and my heart raced with anticipation. I quickly got out of the car.
But just as I was about to approach him, I saw a familiar figure sidle up to him—Bella Lawson, his first love. She was as stunning as her name implied and they were sharing an intimate moment. I wanted to confront them right then and there, but I held back. Instead, I took out my phone and discreetly snapped a photo of them together, my hands shaking on the steering wheel. Trying to keep my composure, I decided to follow them.
What I witnessed next left me utterly shocked.
Bella smoothly took hold of Liam's arm and the two of them strolled into Lovotel, a nearby hotel, with smiles on their faces. I couldn’t wrap my head around Liam's attitude. How could he be so cheerful? Didn't he care about our son's identity? If he did, why was he smiling so carefree, without a trace of concern?
I quickly took out my phone and snapped a few photos of them together. Sitting in the car, I needed a moment to collect my thoughts. After that, I dialed my best friend’s number and asked, "Hey, Betty, remember that private detective you mentioned? Can you send me their contact info?"
Worried, she asked, "Are you okay? Let me know if there's anything I can do. I might have some advice for you."
Putting on a brave front, I chuckled, "Yeah, I'm alright. If things get serious, I'll fill you in."
