In the picture, Joseph held Norah in his arms and looked gentle.
But when he looked at me, he looked cold.
"The pregnancy test stick is on the table. Have a test. If you lie to me, you won't get any medicine in the future."
I couldn't believe it.
"Don't you trust me?"
Joseph snorted coldly.
"Don't act like you are wronged. You have lied to me numerous times."
What did he mean?
A year ago, the whole village suddenly suffered from uremia. I asked him for medicine again and again and saved my family's lives.
My families were admitted to the intensive care unit and were dying, but Joseph thought that I had lied to him because my family didn't die.
He thought I was using my family's lives to restrain him.
I tried hard to explain, but I couldn't speak anything.
I had explained to him numerous times.
But Joseph never listened to me.
I was here to ask for medicine, so I didn't care about Joseph's thoughts.
The pregnancy test stick could produce results in just five minutes.
Without hesitation, I grabbed it and ran to the bathroom, not wanting to waste any time.
As soon as I came out, he saw Norah crying heartbrokenly with the fish tank in her hands.
"Joseph, this goldfish has been with me for half a year. I can't bear to see it die."
Joseph's eyes were filled with pain.
"Hold on a little longer. Five hours ago, the doctor told me that we should just wait and that it would be fine soon. Once she finishes the test, I'll take you for a follow-up checkup."
I suddenly realized something.
Five hours ago, Joseph had already landed safely in Yoveet with the special medicine.
But he turned around and left mercilessly because of a phone call.
I thought he had something important to do.
It turned out that Norah's goldfish was sick.
Could it be that fifty-six lives were less important than a fish in Joseph's eyes?
"Is this why you abandoned our entire village?"
I questioned him.
But Joseph looked at me in disbelief.
"Mia, why are you so cold-blooded? Don't animals' lives matter?"
I was so angry that I almost laughed, but for a moment I didn't know how to refute him.
This was one of the countless ridiculous that Joseph did for Norah.
I closed my eyes, feeling an overwhelming sense of despair.
Joseph looked at me with a disheartened expression and frowned unconsciously.
"Are you crazy?"
My phone beeped, which meant five minutes were up.
I suppressed my anger, knowing that I shouldn't hold him responsible now.
