Just as I reached the door, I saw Matthew and Janet entering, laughing and talking.

Upon seeing me, his smile instantly turned into coldness.

He noticed the luggage in my hand and said coldly with a frown, "Cynthia, is it never enough with the divorce and running away from home?"

His tone was full of blame as if I was the one who had made a big mistake.

Janet stepped forward and explained to me in a gentle voice, "Cynthia, I've got a cold. Matthew was worried about my health, so he took care of me for a few days. I'm sorry for disturbing your family's tour. I'm here especially to apologize to you."

Although she said it was an apology, it was clear that she was here to show off Matthew's care for her.

Her eyes were as if to say, "Look, your husband will come for me at any time."

"Don't show off your affection in front of me. I'm not interested in your affairs."

I spoke indifferently, without a ripple in my tone.

Matthew's face immediately clouded with displeasure. "Cynthia, what's with the sarcasm? It's just a road trip. We can go anytime. Is it worth making a fuss over such a trivial matter?"

"Indeed, it's not worth it."

I replied coldly, leaving those words hanging as I passed him with my luggage, unwilling to utter another word.

Matthew had never seen such indifference in me before. Surprise flickered in his eyes, and he seemed somewhat taken aback.

Regaining his composure, he softened his tone and said, "Is Amelia upset because I left you on the highway that day? I'll make it up to her later. You're an adult. Don't act out over this."

Amelia had been gone for days, and if Matthew had cared even a little about our home, he wouldn't have made such a foolish remark.

But he didn't. He had devoted all his attention to Janet, risking Amelia and me for her mere cold.

Thinking of my poor daughter, I felt heartbroken again.

I shook off Matthew's hand and said, "There's no chance anymore."

"How can there be no chance?"

Matthew frowned, "I'll call Amelia down right now. She's such a good girl. She'll surely forgive me."

After saying that, he immediately started calling Amelia's name in the house.

In the past, Amelia would rush out happily for a hug at the sound of Matthew's voice.

But this time, despite several calls from Matthew, there was no response.
