"I hope you understand that there is a huge gap between our two families, and someone like you will drag Harry down."
She pointed at Kate and continued, "Kate's father is the general manager of a company. Only someone like her is worthy of Harry."
How could I not hear it? Jill's words clearly implied that I was not worthy of Harry.
I didn't answer and turned to stare at Harry.
He lowered his head and stirred the rice in his bowl, without making any statement.
The last glimmer of hope in my heart extinguished.
I sneered, "You're right. We're not suitable. Someone like him is not worthy of me."
"How dare you!"
Jill's face turned liver-colored.
I left her house amidst her scolding.
Harry caught up with me at the entrance of the community.
He grabbed my wrist and questioned me, "What do you mean? Are you just leaving like this?"
I shook off his wrist and said, "What else do you want me to do? Stay and let them continue to humiliate me?"
"You're overthinking. They didn't mean that. Can't you endure it for me?"
"Endure it? Do you think I have no feelings? You can't even say a word for me!" I sarcastically said.
Harry had nothing to say.
I took a deep breath and said calmly, "Harry, let's break up."
Harry stood still, unbelievably opening his mouth and saying, "Just because of this little thing, you want to break up with me?"
It turned out that in his eyes, being humiliated by his family was just a small matter.
I forced a smile and left without looking back.
He shouted hysterically behind me, "Do you think I care about you? Because your family has no money, I have to lower my head to my brother and always be inferior before Kate!"
I paused for a moment, and the tears that I had just managed to hold back burst out.
He told me that his mother favored his brother.
After his brother married a rich wife, Jill spoiled his brother even more and neglected him.
He blamed his mother for it.
But he would rather blame me for not having money than protest to his mother.
I wiped away my tears and dialed my father.
As soon as he heard my hoarse voice, he knew I had cried.
He comforted me on the phone and told me that it was a good thing to see Harry's true face before getting married.
To make me happy, he acquired a company for me and transferred hundreds of thousands of dollars to me as pocket money.
Every time I was unhappy, my father gave me a lot of money to indulge in crazy shopping.
