Unfortunately, my happy days only lasted for a few days. Then someone intruded.
While taking a walk in the neighborhood, I unexpectedly saw Wendy talking to the neighbors.
I quietly walked to them and heard her sigh.
"It was so cold at night, so I complained a bit, yet Georgia actually told me to go sleep with a dog.
"Keith spoke up for me, and we got kicked out in the middle of the night."
The neighbors were indignant.
"Georgia is so selfish!"
"She occupies the big house and throws you all into the old shabby one. Doesn't she have a conscience at all?"
Upon hearing this, Wendy looked hesitant.
"Someone told me before that they saw Georgia being intimate with a man at night...
"It can't be true... Can it?"
Hearing that, those people were gossipy. Everyone gathered together and whispered.
"Did she kick you out so that she could be with that man without you disturbing them?"
"Georgia cheated on Keith and mistreated you. She should be punished!"
They made it sound like I indeed had an affair.
I didn't expect Wendy to be so malicious, and I walked toward them with a cold face.
"Those who spread rumors about their daughter-in-law having an affair should also be punished. Don't you think?
"Who said I was having an affair? Tell him or her to be here to confront me!"
Wendy was startled and said, feeling guilty.
"Georgia, don't be mad. If you don't want to see me, I'll leave right away..."
She started to play the victim again!
She started the whole thing, but once she cried, it became my fault.
Our neighbor, Harvey Blake, chimed in.
"We didn't mean anything. Don't make a big deal out of it."
I said to him with a smile.
"Harvey, what were you doing with Hazel in the hotel last time?"
Hazel Wolfe was also one of our neighbors. Harvey's face turned red, and he pointed at me, cursing me, saying that I was full of shit!
"I didn't mean anything. Don't make a big deal out of it, Harvey."
I repeated what he said. His expression changed a few times, and he didn't say another word.
See? Villains ought to be punished.
Wendy stopped talking and left in a hurry.
I stared at her back and noticed that she kept looking back as she walked, as if afraid of being seen.
I followed her when she wasn't looking and saw a man riding a bike to pick her up, and he affectionately touched her belly.
I guessed he was the father of her child.
I followed all the way to Wendy's old and shabby house.
