Lucas looked at me angrily. "But now Ella is pregnant, and you let her stay here. Now you're going to work and don't care about her?"
I gave him a sideways glance. "I let Ella stay here because I felt sorry for her, not because I wanted to take care of her. Did I make her pregnant? She could have chosen to move out. You're so worried about no one taking care of her, why don't you stay here and take care of her?
"Or, is it that the baby in her belly has something to do with you?"
Hearing my words, their faces changed.
"What are you talking about?"
Lucas yelled at me.
Ella, on the other hand, looked pale and said pitifully, "Olivia, even though I'm living in your house and spending your money now, you don't have to say something like this to me. Lucas and I are innocent and you're accusing us of something like this."
I looked at them amused. "I was just joking. Why are you getting so nervous?
"Is it really what I said?"
Lucas and Ella realized they were being too tense, and they looked sullen and didn't say anything.
Watching them all calm down, I formally announced, "Starting tomorrow, I will be going back to work at my own company.
"I don't need anyone else's permission."
The last meal ended in an unpleasant manner.
After taking a shower in my room, Lucas still hadn't returned.
I opened the listening device installed in Ella's room.
Sure enough, I heard Lucas's voice.
Lucas's voice was so gentle that I had never heard it before.
Ella asked Lucas if I had already known about their affair.
Lucas comforted her and said, "Olivia only takes care of her skin and flowers and stays at home all day. How could she possibly know about these things? You can just relax and take care of the baby."
Ella then asked, "Now that Olivia is going back to work, what if she takes away your power of decision-making?"
Lucas scoffed and said, "Ever since she got pregnant before, she hasn't been involved in the company's affairs. After the miscarriage, she has no interest in it anymore.
"Fortunately, I paid off the masseur beforehand, and had him use some means to induce an abortion in Olivia.
"Now that she doesn't have a child, I will have a way to transfer all of her property to the name of our child."
I felt a chill run down my spine.
It turned out that the child I had always felt guilty about, was not killed by me.
