Luna’s mother, Sofia, never looked at her after she was born, as if Luna didn’t exist.
What they saw as nothing was my treasure, the daughter I raised painstakingly. How could I let them humiliate her like this?
I stared coldly at Stella, the eldest daughter of the Robertson elders.
“You want Luna to apologize to Henry? That’s impossible,” I spoke.
Stella laughed in disbelief.
“Ethan, who do you think you are to defy me? Are you serious? Do you think you have the right to refuse?”
Sofia, slightly surprised, still sided with Henry.
“It’s just crawling under his legs. They’re just kids, what’s the big deal? Stop being so melodramatic. If you don’t want to be kicked out of our family, just let her do it.”
Hearing her mother speak, Luna loosened her grip on me and tried to get down again. I held her back immediately and finally voiced the thought that had crossed my mind countless times over the past eight years.
“Sofia, I want a divorce.”
My words struck like a thunderbolt, leaving the Robertsons stunned.
After a moment of shock, they quickly burst to scornful laughter.
George laughed so hard that he spilled his tea, saying, “That’s the funniest thing I’ve heard today, Ethan. Without us, you’re nothing but a worthless nobody, and you dare to talk about divorce?”
Margaret sneered, her eyes narrowing as she looked me up and down. “You must be joking. Who do you think you are? If there’s going to be a divorce, it will be our family divorcing you!”
I was done tolerating the Robertsons’ insults. “I’ll give you one last chance – have Henry apologize to Luna, or the humiliation you’ve inflicted on us today will be repaid a hundredfold in the future!”
Stella responded by raising her hand to slap me again. “How dare you! You’re nothing but a piece of shit, and you dare to disrespect us?”
This time, I didn’t hold back. I blocked her hand with a swift motion.
Sofia stood up, supporting her sister, and glared at me in fury. “Ethan! I was going to be generous and give you some money, but you’ve gone too far! You won’t get a cent from our family! If we divorce, you’ll leave with nothing!”
A servant promptly brought out a divorce agreement, clearly indicating that the Robertsons had planned this all along.
Without hesitation, I took the pen and prepared to sign the divorce papers.
