Allergy crisis: My Roommate Wants to Kill MeChapter 1

My university roommate, Emily Hutcherson, made a scathing post on her X account about me, Valerie Mitchell. It was really hurting my heart when I read it. After all, I never knew that she hated me like this.

[@Emily_HoneyQueen: My spoiled roommate was so good at lying! That bitch told us that she was allergic to f*cking mangoes if she eats them. In fact, she even said that she couldn’t even smell the mangoes. Is this some sort of privileged trend?]

As soon as I checked the comments, people were hating on me.

Emily even had the audacity to reply to anyone who commented on her post.

[@Emily_HoneyQueen: That’s right! I’m free to eat whatever I want. No one can force me to stop eating just because they have a goddamn allergy! I’ll try to give her mangoes tonight to see if that bitch will be dead or not!]

Then, I found out that the whole dorm smelled of mangoes when I returned to the dorm after I studied. Not only that, I also realized that there was a large amount of mango powder that was put on my glass. But I realized it way too late because I fell into an anaphylactic shock before I ended up passing away.

However, I was surprised to find that I was able to wake up again. That was when I realized that I went back on the day Emily posted.

——

When I woke up only to see that I was at the dorm that I used to live in, I was a bit confused. After all, the last thing I could remember was that I was on the ICU and heard that the doctors pronounced my death.

Without further ado, I took out my phone to check the time. It really was indeed 8 a.m. on October 26th. While I was able to live my life again, I knew that today was supposed to be the day I died.

I couldn’t help but look at my roommates with eyes full of hatred. There were Emily and then Anna Gold. Both of them were sleeping soundly on the beds opposite to me. In this timeline, I would make sure that they would never have an easy life for killing me in my past life!

Time passed by slowly. All of them started to wake up and took showers. My other roommate, Fiona Hall, saw that I still hadn’t gotten up yet. That girl wanted to wake me up, but Emily stopped her.

Emily coldly said, “Don’t wake that girl up! Just wait until she’s late. She always pretends to fall asleep so that we’ll have to wake her up for every single day.”

Hearing that, I couldn’t help but sneer. In my previous life, I was really tolerant to their cruel antics. But they became even crueler as the time passed by.

Since I was a child, I was allergic to mangoes. In fact, the allergy was so severe that my body would instantly get rashes when I smelled the mangoes. But it couldn’t be compared to eating mangoes. If I ate mangoes, I would immediately feel my chest felt so tight and my breath became very ragged that I couldn’t even breathe.

Knowing that I had such a terrible allergy, I initiated to build a good relationship with them because they were my roommates. In fact, I was determined to do so. At the beginning of the sophomore year, I gave them gifts according to what they liked.

I noticed that Emily liked bags, so I bought her a Christian Dior bag. As for Anna, she loved wearing a luxurious necklace, so I also gave her a Van Cleef necklace even though it was expensive. Fiona loved eating, so I brought her to a fine dining restaurant to eat fancy seafood.

Fortunately, I came from a financially strong family. My father worked as a CEO, while my mother was a civil employee. Not only that, I was an only child. So, my parents really doted on m.

Every time they gave me pocket money since I was a child, I would save them. In fact, I was able to save USD 500,000 just from my pocket money alone. Thus, I decided to use my savings to spend things on my roommates in hope that they would accommodate me by not eating mangoes because I was that allergic to the mangoes.

Unfortunately, my plan seemed to backfire on me. Emily and Anna thought that I wanted to show off to them that I was rich even though that was never my intention. Although they accepted my gifts and promised to respect my boundary regarding the mangoes, they didn’t want to respect it.

I would smell a strong mango smell every time I came back to my dorm. My skin would immediately get rashes, so I could only apply some topical ointment as I protested in silence while I calmed my skin down. However, I would never think that both Emily and Anna would be this cruel to try to kill me for my allergy.

As soon as they left te dorm, I talked with the counselor that I would take a leave for sick so that I couldn’t attend my classes today freely. I knew very well that time was tight, so I had to everything I could before they came back to the dorm. Thus, I quickly went to hospital to get my doctor’s note from the doctor.

While I was waiting for the doctor’s appointment, I checked X. As I expected, I saw Emily’s post just like in my previous life. Although she made an anonymous post, I had her phone number. That would surely expose her name. I knew that her post was extremely popular because it had more than 10,000 likes. Not only that, I was able to see that she pinned another post.

[@Emily_H: My spoiled roommate was so good at lying! That bitch told us that she was allergic to f*cking mangoes if she eats them. In fact, she even said that she couldn’t even smell the mangoes. Is this some sort of privileged trend?]

Unsurprisingly, most of the comments agreed with her.

Chapter 2

I saw the first comment that had the highest number of likes.

[Caroline_P: You’re free to eat whatever the hell you want. As long as you buy it yourself, you can eat! Why should you care about her fake allergy?]

After that, I checked another comment that had the second highest number of likes.

[Paloma_Q: Her allergy is her problem. She can choose to live elsewhere! After all, you’re not ehr parent. Why do you hace to accommodate such a stupid allergy just fo her? Eat, girl, eat more! It’s better for her to be hospitalized for that weird allergy over you not eating!]

The more I scrolled, I found another comment that had the third highest number of likes.

[Mycah_A: I’m also allergic to mangoes. My skin would have rash, but I won’t die. I guess your roommate is just too spoiled. In my opinion, you should’ve eaten the mangoes before her.]

When I noticed a few comments who defended me, they were quickly reported by people who made comments that Emily was free to eat her mangoes. Not long after that, Emily posted a comment just like what I saw in my previous life. She commented that would try to see whether I would die or not if she gave me mangoes at night just like what happened in my previous life.

I immediately took a screenshot and saved it. After all, I knew that she would delete her posts talking about me when I died. Since I noticed that the class had ended, I hurried back to school and went to the library first. After that, I took a photo of the library and told my WhatsApp group with my roommates.

[Valerie M: I’ll read in the library today. It seems that I’ll be back late. Please don’t lock the doors because I’m afraid I’ll still be outside. Thank you!]

After I told them in the WhatsApp group, the person who only responded to me was Fiona after a very long time.

[Fiona H: Ok.]

Not long after that, I hurried back to the dorm to get on my bed and covered my body with my blanket. Not only that, I also pulled down the curtain. I had an idea that I had to do.

Even though it was already fall here, it was still very hot. It didn’t help when I didn’t turn on the air conditioner and the lights. The room became unbearably hot as I was covered in the quilt. In no time, my clothes were already drenching in my sweat. I had to say that this was extremely uncomfortable. But I knew that I had to do this.

Suddenly, I heard footsteps and voices from the door. After a second or two, the door was finally opened. There were also sounds of turning on lights and the air conditioner. I knew that my cruel roommates had gone back from their class as I listened intently inside my own room.

From the noises, I knew thaat Fiona called Emily and Anna to eat together at the cafeteria with her. However, both Emily and Anna refused to eat. Instead, Emily told Fiona to go to the cafeteria first because the former told the latter that she and Anna weren’t hungry yet. It seemed that Fiona didn’t think much about it because I could hear her open the door and left.

To my surprise, Emily then called my name as if she was testing whether I was here or not. I had to admit that I was so nervous that I didn’t even ove an inch for fear that both Emily and Anna would find out that I was actually at my own room.

I could heaar Anna was laughing at Emily as the former asked the latter, “Why are you so scared? Didn’t she tell us on the WhatsApp group that she would be reading at the library and she would be back later today?”

Emily replied coldy, “Well, it’s always better to be cautious, Anna.”

Anna laughed again as she responded, “Well, Valerie isn’t a fortuneteller. She wouldn’t know that we’re here. Besides, this place is so hot. The AC wasn’t even turned on when we came. If that bitch is really in the dorm, she would turn the AC on. Otherwise, her body would boil and then she would die.”

From my room, I could hear Emily say, “Well, you’ve got a point.”

After that, I could hear Anna was walking towards my bed. From the layers of blankets that I used to hide myself from them, I saw that she took my glass from my table. She then told Emily, “Hurry up and bring me the mango powder you bought. We have to put it in before she comes back!”

Meanwhile, Emily was taking her items out of the bag for quite a while. Eventually, she managed to find a small bag of mango powder from her bag. The girl then handed the powder to Anna who quickly received it.

The cunning Emily then spoke, “Just put all the powder in. I really want to know how good she is at lying. If she’s actually fine, I’ll post her on X to let the netizens bully her until she wants to kill herself!”

Anna couldn’t help but cover her mouth as she laughed maniacally and said, “Hahaha! There’ll be a good show to watch then! Let that freak show her true colors!”

“Do you think you can bribe me with a necklace? Does she think I’m a poor girl from countryside? What an asshole!” Anna loudly complained about me.

Emily then provoked Anna even more as the former made a sarcastic remark, “Well, that’s the city girls for you, Anna. They are indeed very amazing, aren’t they?”

The reason why Anna quickly ate Emily’s provocation was because Anna did come from the countryside. From the professors, I heard that she had a terrible family. Her parents were openly favoring sons over daughters. So, they kept having more and more children until they had seven children just to get a son that they loved.

Anna was the sixth child in the family. I knew that she worked hard to get where she currently was, our university. Not only that, I was aware that she was a smart student who kept her grades good that was make her able to get a scholarship. If only they knew who she really was, it would be different.

Chapter 3

After both Emily and Anna had some disagreements about what would they do to me after giving me the mango powder, the two of them eventually reached a mutual agreement. Unfortunately, their voices were too quiet for me to record them. However, I knew that they were planning to buy a large bag of mangoes to eat in the dorm as soon as they exposed me.

Meanwhile, I was still laying on my bed as I listened more and more to their conversations. Slowly but surely, I began to understand the reason why Emily really hated me. It made me understand why she thought that I was showing off to her.

From what I knew, Anna had a rich family. Her parents were actually CEOs that worked in major companies. But I intended to give her a bag purely out of sincerity. It was never because I wanted to show off to them. Instead, I just wanted to get along with them while the four of us went to the university.

I knew very well that my allergy was indeed my own problem, so I knew that I wasn’t supposed to ask them not to eat mangoes for my own safety. However, my parents also told me that they wouldn’t let me stay away from my home and they had to accommodate my allergy. Thus, I could only spend money to buy them gifts to try to make them accommodate my allergy.

Not only that, I would tell them to tell me whenever they wanted to eat mangoes so that I could avoid it. Oh, how wrong I was! Who knew that my ideas of giving them gifts backfired horribly to me?

I knew that I couldn’t blame them for eating mangoes before me every single time. After all, I also felt bad about them not being able to eat whatever they wanted to eat. So, I chose to take my medicine as I suffered in silence whenever they ate mangoes.

What I hated the most was the fact that they didn’t even take a human life seriously. They even killed me in my previous life! If they kept thinking that they could play with my life, I would gamble with this life to show them the real karma.

After both of them left, I also left the dorm to eat something. Then, I went to the library to study until 8 p.m. When I came back to the dorm, my roommates were all eating mangoes.

The moment Fiona saw me, she apologetically said, “Oh, Valerie! You’re here very early!”

I calmly replied, “I already told you in the WhatsApp group. I guess you guys haven’t checked it.”

Indeed, I already sent them a message in our WhatsApp group that I would come back early before I came back. Surely, they were the ones who chose to ignore it. As for Fiona, I did believe that she might not see it because she seemed to be sincere with her shocked face.

The girl said, “Oh, really? Well, my phone is charging now. So, I guess I haven’t seen it because of that.”

I just responded to her by letting out a faint smile without saying anything. Meanwhile, my body already reacted because I already had red rashes at this point. After that, I looked at Emily and Anna> Both of them were still focusing on eating their mangoes happily as they ignored me being here.

When I saw my arms, the rashes already struck them. There were lots of itchy rashes at different sizes. They were really painful.

Out of nowhere, Emily suddenly made a sarcastic remark that was clearly meant for me, “If someone wants to eat, someone can eat, right? If someone can’t eat just because they have some allergy, that someone should go out and wait somewhere else. There are only three of us here, so why should we accommodate that someone all the time?”

Anna responded in agreement, “That’s right! We can eat whenever we want. Some people are just so selfish. Just because they’re allergic to mangoes, they want us to accommodate them by giving us expensive gifts? When we want to eat, we have to think whether that person is here or not. How can we keep up with this?”

“This world doesn’t belong to that person alone. Now, we are even asked to accommodate that spoiled person at the university! If we graduate, do we still have to cater to that person?”

Meanwhile, I started to feel dizzy and had a hard time to breathe. Not only that, my whole body was itchy as if it was being burned. It was really itchy, especially my neck and cheeks that turned red and swollen. I couldn’t help but try to get my medicine in my bag. Suddenly, my hand shook violently that caused the medicine bottle to fell to the floor.

When Fiona wanted to help me to get my bottle, she was stopped by Emily. Emily then pretended to take my bottle, but she actually kicked my bottle to the balcony. After that, the girl pretended to look surprised as she covered her mouth and said, “Sorry! I didn’t see it!”

I could only shook my head that became heavier before I staggered to the balcony. However, I was shocked to see that I got tripped by Anna who outstretched her foot. Immediately, I fell to the floor.

Again, Fiona wanted to help me. But she was then pulled by then again. After that, I could hear that Emily said to her in a threatening manner, “You don’t need to care for her. She’s definitely pretending. After all, there is no man here. So, she has no idea to whom she has to play victim for.”

“But-”

Clearly, Fiona wanted to say something else. But she was then pulled by both Emily and Anna who kept continuing to eat mangoes. While Fiona was usually decent to me, she was meek. So, I knew that I couldn’t count on her at all.

The only thing I could do was to bite my lips as hard as I could to force myself to stay awake. In fact, I was barely hodling on my bed as I stood up while I continued to stumble to the balcony. Eventually, I picked up the medicine bottle. But I no longer had any strength. So, I could only beg them to get me some water.

When Emily heard that, the girl let out a smirk as she made another sarcastic remark, “Gosh! You’re quite good at acting? What kind of sad drama are you planning to show us here, huh?”

Chapter 4

“Please help me. I really don’t have any strength left. I feel so uncomfortable here. Please help me get some water.”

Fiona looked at me anxiously. When the girl saw that I was about to faint at any time, she hurried to get glass from her desk.

But Anna stopped her and pointed at my glass as she said, “Fiona, use her glass. Don’t let her use your glass. Aren’t you afraid of getting infected by her allergy?”

For a while, Fiona hesitated. But she eventually turned around to get my glass on my desk. Immediately, I took my glass with trembling hands as I waited for the person I had been waiting. All of a sudden, the door to the our dorm rang.

“Is Miss Valerie Mitchell in the dorm?”

Anna answered, “Isn’t that our resident advisor. What she’s doing here?”

Fiona meekly responded, “She’s now looking for Valerie, but Valerie is like this now.”

No one in the room answered me, but the resident advisor (RA) still knocked the door. Emily just rolled her eyes as she told Fiona brashly, “Just open the door a little ad tell her that Valerie isn’t in the dorm!”

Fiona just looked at me awkwardly as she whispered, “I-I can’t lie.”

Anna, who was annoyed, eventually said, “It’s useless, Emily. I’ll answer it.”

Then, Anna immediately opened the door albeit slightly while she blocked the room with her whole body. After that, the girl greeted the RA as she faintly smiled. Just as she was about to say that I wasn’t here, I immediately shouted with all strength I had, “Ma’am, I’m here!”

Immediately, the RA opened the door in hurry as she walked inside the dorm and shouted at Anna, “You idiot, are you trying to lie to me?”

Without further ado, Anna kept apologizing and tried to change the subject. But Emily was still trying to hide me. Still, the RA was a stubborn person. When the RA realized that Emily was trying to block her to go to my room, the former got so angry that she pushed the latter aside. Finally, she was able to see me.

Immediately, the RA’s eyes went wide. She quickly hurried to rush towards me. At this point, I was now leaning against the bed corner weakly as I was holding my eyelids to let her help me open my medicine bottle’s cap.

“What’s wrong, Valerie? What’s going on?”

The RA looked at me nervously before she then looked at the trash can. She immediately understood about what was going on. After all, she knew that I was allergic to mangoes. Since she didn’t have time to process all of this, she focused on helping me to open the bottle cap.

However, the RA noticed that my hand was shaking as I held the medicine bottle. She then took the bottle from me as she fed me my pill. After that, she tilted my glass of water to my lips as she helped me to drink. As soon as I swallowed the pill, I asked the RA to help me call 911 with every last bit of my consciousness.

Seeing this, Emily then jumped out as she tried to pull the RA and coaxed her, “Ma’am, I think Valerie is just pretending. She didn’t eat any mangoes. How couldd she be allergic? Let’s not cause any trouble for the police.”

Anna also added in agreement, “Yes, that’s right, Ma’am. Valerie is surely pretending. We’ve been living at the same dorm with her, so we could see through her lies. We’ve seen it all the time. She just likes to seek attention.”

However, the RA who was a decent adult knew very well whether I was pretending or not.

When she saw how indifferent my roommates towards me, the RA suddenly shouted at them in anger, “Shut the fuck up!”

The moment Emily and Anna saw the RA’s tough attitude, both of them quickly shut their mouths. As we were waiting for the 911 to bring an ambulance, the water I had drunk that had mango powder in it started to take effect. My mouth started to foam. There was only a buzzing noise in my ears.

Not only that, I could only hear the RA asked me to holding on because the ambulance would be here soon. But I couldn’t respond to her. I just held the glass in my hand tightly as I waited. Soon enough, the ambulance alarm was heard downstairs.
