Gemma's POV
"What can I do to atone for my father's crime? I really want to pay on his behalf for what he did to your father.” I pleaded with Louis who had been pestering me for a while now. I know he really loved me even before what happened.
“Well, you know I love you so much, we'd been best friends, then lovers. I really want revenge but I can't get revenge from you.”
“This has nothing to do with you.” Louis kept a cool and calm face, glancing on the floor of his room where I came for a visit. His expression made it obvious he was going through a lot of pain from the death of his dad. I really wanted to help him out. He was in a really bad situation right now.
I thought for a while.
“What if I give you some money to help pay your dad's debts?” I asked. He raised his face slowly and stared at him. He looked away and didn't say anything.
“Do you really mean this but you're not owing me anything?” He asked.
His dad and mine were best friends working at the Alpha's Cement factory, both from Glowen Pack. His dad was a junior staff while my dad was the sectional manager. We were living well but so far they have been struggling. Sometimes I wondered why dad didn't lend a helping hand.
Sometimes ago, Louis complained to me of the huge debt his dad was into. I couldn't help but feel pity, wondering how he was gonna pay all that money and the loan sharks were threatening to send him to jail. He had only about two months when his salary wasn't even something compared to what he owed.
Luckily, he stumbled upon some secret codes to a lottery he registered for. He told no one but my dad since he trusted him so much. The amount he was going to win was a million dollars, he expressed so much joy saying this win will solve his problem and also help him live a better life.
“I wouldn't forget you when I get the money,” Louis told me he said this.
Unfortunately, my dad chose to betray him and went to input the secret codes right away before he did. He galloped with the money leaving me and my step-mom with no news. It was later on the winner of the lottery was announced Louis's dad knew he had been betrayed. Because of this he committed suicide.
“I can't just take money from you to pay my dad's debts. Let's marry since we are lovers.”
“By this, whatever money you give will be legally ours.”
I thought of this as a good suggestion.
“Let's marry then.”
