“That family said as long as she gives them a son, they’ll treat her like a queen. She’ll eat well, drink well and never have to work again. Isn’t that better than slaving away at some job?”

“I really don’t understand what’s wrong with your head. Instead of thanking Kevin, you’re making a fuss over it. Now I finally see what kind of man you are.”

She scolded me harshly, not even holding back. I didn’t respond. I just picked up a pen and signed my name.

Willa’s face turned cold. “Yohan, I’m warning you, if you divorce me today, even if you kneel and beg later, I’ll never take you back.”

I pointed at the divorce papers and said, “Sign it. I can’t live with someone like you for even one more second. Don’t worry, even if someone held a knife to my throat, I would never ask you to come back.”

Furious, Willa replied, “Fine! Do you think I would want you back anyway? Don’t flatter yourself.”

She signed her name on the papers and threw them at my face.

I quietly picked them up and put them away. Then I looked at her and said, “One last thing, call your sister. Ask how she’s doing.”

Willa put on a proud smile. “What now? You want my sister to talk me into taking you back?”

“You’re dreaming, Yohan Frost. My sister went abroad. She’s busy with school and hasn’t replied to my messages in a while.”

“She doesn’t care about your stupid problems. Even if you two used to get along, I’m still her real sister. She’ll never take your side.”

I simply nodded. “Alright.”

At that moment, Kevin’s phone rang. He answered, said a few words before hanging up.

Then, with a smug look on his face, he spoke to me, “Yohan, I just got a call. Your sister died while giving birth in that mountain village. I’m so sorry for your loss.”

I stayed silent. I knew then that Quincy hadn’t made it through after all.

But Willa didn’t care at all. Instead, she quickly asked Kevin, “Yohan’s sister is dead, but what about the project? It won’t be affected, right?”

Kevin held her arm and answered with a smile, “Don’t worry, Willa. The deal is signed. Everything’s fine.”

“Those villagers, they actually keep their word. They just wanted a college-educated girl and we gave them one. If they caused her death, that’s their problem, not ours.”

Willa let out a sigh of relief. “Good. That’s good.”

Watching them, I felt my heart grow cold. I couldn’t understand how I had ever loved someone so heartless.
