Alannah flipped the document to the last page, blocking the beginning as she handed it to Quincy. Her voice was barely above a whisper.
A flicker of realization crossed Quincy’s face—as if this was exactly what he’d expected. Without even glancing at the contents, he lifted his pen and signed his name with a single sweeping motion.
When he looked up, his expression was unreadable. “If you’d just spoken up earlier, I wouldn’t have had to threaten you with those things. It’s just a villa. We can afford that much.”
Alannah’s lips curled into a cold smile. “Yeah. You can afford everything… except for my mother's surgery.”
Quincy’s eyes narrowed slightly, a trace of irritation flashing across his face.
Before he could reply, Pearl spoke up, her tone dripping with contempt. “No wonder people call you a gold digger. That little act you put on earlier? Guess it was just because you didn’t get enough money.”
Alannah didn’t bother responding. She gathered the papers, turned, and walked out without looking back.
When she handed the signed divorce papers to her lawyer, he confirmed, “The signatures are valid. Once the one-month cooling-off period is over, your marriage to Quincy will be legally dissolved.”
As soon as she stepped out of the law firm, she uploaded the voice recording to her phone to a secure cloud folder. Once the divorce was finalized, she would expose everything—how Quincy had threatened her for Pearl’s sake.
Then, she booked a one-way flight for one month later.
When she returned to the villa that evening, Quincy and Pearl were sitting at the dining table.
Pearl turned toward her with a polite smile. “You’re back, Miss Alannah. Would you like to join us for dinner?”
Alannah’s gaze swept over the table. Every single dish was loaded with chili, and she couldn’t eat spicy food.
“Don’t mind her, Pearl,” Quincy said smoothly. “Here, try this one. It’s your favorite.”
He picked up another dish and smiled. “And this spicy shrimp—I asked the housekeeper to make it just for you.”
Watching him tend to Pearl so gently, Alannah couldn’t help herself. “Quincy,” she said softly, “if I remember right, you have stomach problems. You’re not supposed to eat spicy food, are you?”
Pearl immediately clung to his arm, concern lacing her voice. “Quincy, why didn’t you tell me?”
