The surrounding crowd closed in on my mother, beginning to kick and punch her.

Corey added fuel to the fire, shouting, "Yvonne, protect our son! She will definitely look for another chance to kill him."

My eyes become bloodshot with wrath at his twisted lies. "You despicable man! Don't you dare frame my mother! That child was clearly your … "

Before I could finish, he shouted to the security guards nearby. "Guards, grab that old woman! Make her kneel and apologize, swearing a solemn oath!"

"Yes, sir!" The security guards rushed over and dragged my mother, who was on the verge of death, directly to Yvonne.

"Apologize and then swear an oath. Say that if she ever harms my child again, your son, Mark, will be childless forever and die a horrible death," he demanded.

But by now, my mother was in so much pain she couldn't even speak, let alone kneel and swear an oath.

Three minutes later, seeing my mother still curled motionless on the ground, Yvonne flew into a rage.

"Fine, if you won't listen to reason, you'll have to suffer the consequences. Break her hand to prevent future trouble," Yvonne sneered.

"No, Yvonne! Have you forgotten how much my mother loves you?" I screamed. "When you had a cold and fever and I wasn't home, she stayed by your bedside every night to take care of you. You said you wanted to be childless and she had no objections, even though she loves having grandchildren. She just wanted us to be happy."

"But why did you lie? You lied to us about being childless and then used a business trip as an excuse to come to this city and have a child with this man. Yvonne, if you don't have feelings for me, why did you insist on having my mother arrange your marriage to me? Why?" I couldn't help but cry.

"My mother has a heart condition. She didn't tell you because she was afraid that you'd worry. Don't make things difficult for her anymore."

However, she couldn't hear my roars. Her only focus now was Corey and the child in her arms.

She even went as far as to deny our entire relationship, simply because she feared people might misunderstand and hurt Corey.

It was pathetic. Yvonne considered every single detail of that man's feelings. Yet, she never once thought that my mother and I were in actual danger.

Suddenly, someone decided to stand up for Corey. He grabbed a wine bottle, smashed it over my head and kicked me away with such force that I went flying.
